Florida State Seminoles

After losing four key pieces from last season’s Sweet 16 team, the Seminoles have relatively reloaded, adding Houston combo guard transfer Caleb Mills and Kentucky forward Cam’Ron Fletcher, along with an incoming top-5 recruiting class. The two key new pieces include five-star shooting guard Matthew Cleveland and top-30 point guard Jalen Warley.

Outside of senior wing Anthony Polite, Florida State doesn’t have any proven scorers that are returning. And head coach Leonard Hamilton loves to have experienced rosters overall, particularly in the backcourt. A backcourt of Mills and Shackelford would be one of the best in the country and for this transfer in particular, it would allow him to have more of a say in the offense while playing for a Final Four threat.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels having Caleb Love back for another year solidifies the backcourt but even with leading scorer and rebounder Armando Bacot back too, are more of a projected top-25 team next instead of top-10 where they’re normally at. The questions still remain in the backcourt, as to whether or not players such as Kerwin Walton and RJ Davis can also take the next step.

Having a veteran like Shackelford at the shooting guard spot would be tremendous for Love, having a legit scorer alongside him that can create his own offense. He could very well lead North Carolina in scoring next season and play for a high-profile program in the ACC. If he’s willing to stay on the east coast, the Tar Heels could be an under-the-radar option.
