Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini have been looking for frontcourt help all offseason. They may or may not have Kofi Cockburn back (likely not) and are currently after Marquette transfer center Dawson Garcia. Illinois also currently has Florida center Omar Payne but the power forward position is still effectively wide open.

Obanor would fit perfectly there and his spacing would complement Payne in the frontcourt. And with a dynamic point guard in Andre Curbelo leading the way and quality scoring guards Alfonso Plummer and Trent Frazier, Illinois would be able to nearly replace the massive amount of scoring production lost this offseason.

Oklahoma Sooners

While Obanor hails from Houston, he played his last three seasons at Tulsa, Oklahoma for Oral Roberts. The Big 12 schools from the state not only could be in play for the power forward but they also could use him too. For the Sooners, they’ve rebuilt their entire frontcourt under new head coach Porter Moser, including adding Big Sky Player of the Year Tanner Groves, along with JUCO transfer Akol Mawien and former SMU forward Ethan Chargois.

The pairing of Groves and Obanor could be an offensive dream for a team and with Duke transfer Jordan Goldwire and Eastern Illinois wing Marvin Johnson, Oklahoma would still be strong defensively. If Obanor doesn’t want to move far and still get plenty of playing time at the high major level, the Sooners would be a nice option.
