One of the best pure shooting guards in the 2022 NCAA Basketball class is close to making a decision on his college destination. Rodney Rice hails from DeMatha Catholic High School in the state of Maryland and has been a rising prospect for the past few months.

At 6’4 and 190 pounds, Rice has great size at the two-guard position and has the potential to be an offensive juggernaut. He can score in a variety of ways but his bread and butter is his shooting ability. He projects to be a 35+% three-point shooter and a double-digit scoring contributor. He has great long-term potential and in the right spot could really thrive for a program.

We now know which programs are truly in contention to land Rice, with a couple of expected finalists and a few others seemingly having made up ground in this recruitment. This piece will be about how Rice fits with each possible option, along with what to expect in terms of minutes and playing time.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The shooting guard position went from being stacked on paper to almost cleared out in a matter of days, as Joshua Primo entered the NBA Draft and Jaden Shackelford transferring out. That leaves Keon Ellis and Texas Tech Nimari Burnett, a former five-star prospect who played just 12 games last season off the bench.

Even with JD Davison as a potential “one and done” Rice has a great chance at immediate playing time as a freshman. His shooting ability gives him a good shot automatically at being part of the rotation, as long as the Tide doesn’t land a five-star or elite transfer, which Coach Nate Oats is capable of.

Georgetown Hoyas

The Hoyas have a five-star incoming shooting guard prospect in Aminu Mohammed but both he and Rice can play together in a three-guard lineup, along with Dante Harris as the point guard. This is a team that lost a ton of talent this offseason and will be one of the youngest in the country next season.

Rice would have the chance to be part of a core group that helps Georgetown gets back consistently to the top of the Big East. And as one of the “hometown” options as well for the Maryland native, the Hoyas should have a genuine chance at landing the top-100 prospect. After missing out on Judah Mintz, maybe Rice is the one they can get.
