Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Irish are an interesting option due to the extra year of eligibility, as their entire backcourt outside of junior Cormack Ryan and incoming freshman Blake Wesley will all be seniors next season. That includes star point guard Prentiss Hubbs, as well as Robby Carmody, Dane Goodwin, and Trey Wertz.

If a couple of them departs after next season, there would be plenty of room for Rice to come in and be an impact player. However, everyone returning would cause him to ride the bench for his freshman campaign. But considering the prestige of the university and the academics Notre Dame provides, it may be something worth doing. Rice absolutely would have a big role in the future and his talent is something different than what the current perimeter players have.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies recently lost wing Tyrece Radford to the transfer portal but still have plenty of guards leftover, including grad transfer Storm Murphy, sharpshooter Hunter Catoor, and Nahiem Alleyne. Three-star freshman Sean Pedulla and recent top-150 commit MJ Collins are part of the future, along with potentially Rice, although he likely won’t have a giant role as a freshman unless Alleyne leaves.

Head coach Mike Young has had great success early in his tenure at Virginia Tech in terms of developing perimeter players, who may not have the raw skillset as a Rodney Rice. And with Blacksburg just a short drive away from where he and his family reside, this is an option with few faults. Being able to play in the ACC and for a team that should be fairly good going forward, the Hokies have a lot to offer the top-100 prospect.
