NCAA Basketball: 6 potential landing spots for former ULL guard Cedric Russell
By Nick Raponi
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns had an exceptional backcourt during the 2020-21 NCAA Basketball season, as guards Cedric Russell and Mylik Wilson took major leaps as individual players and were the top two scorers on the team.
Wilson, a sophomore, jumped on his opportunity to join a more prolific program by entering the transfer portal and committing to Texas Tech in early May. Now the team has to deal with arguably an even bigger blow, as Russell has entered his name into the transfer portal as well.
Russell, a senior, 6’2″ guard who last year averaged 17.2 points per game on 41.9% shooting, will surely be a coveted asset. While Russell shot 41.9% from the field, it is worth noting that he shot 40% from three-point land while jacking up 7.3 per game – a rate that will certainly be an eye-opener for many teams. On top of his shooting skill, Russell seems to be the type of player who puts in work relentlessly, as his game and numbers have drastically improved year by year.
While Russell is definitely talented and an asset to countless teams, his options may be a tad limited due to it already being July, and many teams have their rosters in place and/or have their eyes on other recruits that have been in the portal and speaking with teams longer than Russell has.
However with that being said, when a talent like Russell becomes available, teams often shift their focus and alter their plans. Here is a look at six potential destinations for Russell that make sense for both him and the team.
