Texas Tech Red Raiders

Some would argue that the Texas Tech Red Raiders are the ideal landing spot for Russell, so if that’s the case, apologies for the lack of buildup. After losing guards Mac McClung (declared for the NBA Draft) and Kyler Edwards (transferred), the backcourt is wide open for Russell to come in and play major minutes on an already talented team. With Terrance Shannon Jr., Kevin McCullar, and Marcus Santos-Silva returning, adding Russell could be the big piece they need to make another leap.

In addition to the starting spot being available, Russell’s former backcourt teammate with the Ragin’ Cajuns Mylik Wilson has already committed, so he’ll have a familiar face around him to get adjusted to the new setting. This seems like the perfect fit for both Russell and the Red Raiders.

St. John’s Red Storm

As noted in a previous article, there are no excuses for the St. John’s Red Storm this upcoming season. The team was able to convince star forward Julian Champagnie to return for another season, which was slightly unexpected but great for the Red Storm. In addition to Champagnie, expect Posh Alexander to take a massive leap forward.

While there’s no arguing the fact that the team has already brought in a few quality guards with Montez Mathis, Stef Smith, and Tareq Hoburn, none of those three bring the impact that Russell would. Inserting Russell into a starting lineup that already includes Champagnie and Alexander would give the Red Storm a chance to do some serious damage in the Big East next season.
