One of the top NCAA Basketball class of 2022 prospects from the state of California is one step closer to making a decision. Joseph Hunter Jr. is a consensus top-100 overall recruit, ranked by 247sports at No. 50 overall. The 6’5 shooting guard from Fresno has been a rising prospect for the past few months and should be top-50 in every recruiting service soon.

Hunter has great size and is a natural scorer, capable of operating with the ball in his hands and playing off-ball as well. A solid defender and passer, he projects as a high-major starter and double-digit scorer at the right spot and could be an impact performer.

Hunter is now down to a final group of seven with programs stretched all across the country. As one of the top prospects from out west, there’s a good chance that the shooting guard will stay in the pacific time zone.

But which ones are the best potential fits for Hunter? Here’s a closer look at each respective option.

Arkansas Razorbacks

After landing only one player in the 2021 class (Chance Moore), Arkansas already has two players committed in the 2022 class. Three-star wing Joseph Pinion and four-star small forward Barry Dunning adds needed future depth on the wing, with Au’Diese Toney and Trey Wade likely only around for one year.

At the shooting guard position, South Dakota grad transfer Stanley Umude and 14 ppg scoring guard JD Notae will be around for one more season as well, which leaves plenty of future room for someone like Hunter to come in and get minutes. But he’ll have to be careful, as Coach Musselman will always land a transfer or two each offseason.
