Kansas Basketball: Why Remy Martin can win 2021-22 Big 12 Player of the Year

His ability to play with other elite players

Even with the high-profile high school players, Hurley has been able to bring in, Martin will get the chance to play around a plethora of Big 12-starting caliber players. Especially with the returns of Jalen Wilson and Ochai Agbaji.

David McCormack played like high-level basketball in some stretches and will be the go-to for pick-and-roll’s with Martin. Although Martin was not asked to do much pick-and-roll within Hurley’s system, Self loves feeding his big men through point guards.

Martin has proved how good his shooting consistency is, alongside his ability to jump passing lines and finish at the rim better than many other guards in the country can.

Improvements I’m looking to see from Martin is how he’ll fit in Self’s system, alongside more man-to-man defense.

The Big 12 has loaded up with guards, especially out of the transfer portal. Martin will be playing some of the best guards in the country twice a week and how well he manages that is his ceiling to be Big 12 Player of The Year.

Martin has the talent around him to do it and the skillset to lead Kansas back to the top of the conference. His finishing, shot-making, and assets around him are the reasons why Remy Martin can win the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2021-2022.
