The transfer portal has taken over the off-season and with the weeks winding and dwindling of players in the portal, recruiting will begin to ramp up.

It already has within Big 12 Basketball, with one of the most talented guards in the country and three teams battling for the services of the best player in the state of Texas.

Each team has its eyes set on the future of the program, with quite a few in the play for blue-chip prospects. Here are each team’s top target, with the greatest chance of landing them.

All of the rankings, position, and overall are from 247 Sports.

C Vince Iwuchukwu (No. 5 C, No. 24 overall)

Team: Texas Tech

Mark Adams has been consistent in the transfer portal, as many first-year coaches have been. Adams has landed a plethora of talented players and is on one of the best stretch forwards in the country in Kevin Obanor.

However, on the recruiting trail, the most notable player with the most interest is Iwuchukwu. Iwuchukwu is not the most talented center in the class but has among the best motors in the class. Letting the game slow down will be the main focus as Iwuchukwu has shot-blocking traits, alongside good post offense,

The key for Texas Tech in this recruitment is the opposition they’re going up against. Kansas, TCU, and Baylor are three other schools in the mix, which is unusual for a player from Monteverde to have that many Big 12 schools.

The leader in the clubhouse for Iwuchukwu is Baylor and has been a pretty consistent No.1 over the previous six months.

TCU is in the mix for the Top-25 player in the country and is considered a dark horse to make a big run in his recruitment. However, it is much less likely he’ll end up in Fort Worth, with the other programs having much more success on the court.

Texas Tech is going to have to overjump Baylor and potentially Kansas to land his services. Although it is likely, it’s going to be Adams’ toughest job so far, while being the lead man in Lubbock.

Prediction: Baylor
