Duke Blue Devils

Future head coach Jon Scheyer will be the lead recruiter for this upcoming season as he creates his very own roster for the 2022-23 campaign. This is a very young roster, featuring five-star freshmen AJ Griffin and Trevor Keels, as well as Jeremy Roach as the starting point guard. They may not be NBA-ready after next season, which would have an effect on Black’s role for the year after.

The allure and prestige of the Blue Devils will never go away, no who the head coach is. But Black will be playing for Coach Scheyer, who is unproven as a head coach at the NCAA Basketball level. If he chooses Duke, Black will have to find out in person whether or not he’s good enough. With other proven head coaches who have won big, it’ll be interesting to see if that matters in this recruitment.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Assistant coach Steven Gentry, formerly at Illinois, has been recruiting Black for a while. He’s now at Gonzaga, which recently offered him a scholarship. The program has landed prospects from Texas before, including All-American big man Drew Timme.

The Bulldogs landed five-star guard Hunter Sallis and top-30 point guard Nolan Hickman, who may or may not be one-and-done recruits. And with Iowa State transfer Rasir Bolton also on board, there’s a real chance that Black wouldn’t start at Gonzaga if he picked there. But the success of the program in terms of development and making the Sweet 16 every year makes them a real threat to land this prospect.
