Iowa State Cyclones

The Cyclones stand out here in a bad way, coming off a 2-win season and a coaching change/complete roster rebuild. They do have top-100 freshman point guard Tyrese Hunter coming in and if Izaiah Brockington and Gabe Kalscheur are only around for one year, Black can come in, start, and then be a featured player for the Big 12 team.

The most optimistic scenario individually for Black is that he looks like Tyrese Haliburton, who played two years at Iowa State before being a lottery pick in the NBA Draft. They have similar size at 6’7 and each has great athleticism but as Haliburton went through in his sophomore campaign, there likely won’t be much winning going on for Black if he picked this option. It would have the be the fact that he can come in and put up major numbers early on as the main selling point.

Memphis Tigers

After declining the head coach job at the Orlando Magic, Penny Hardaway is back and looks like for a while longer with the Tigers. And he’s brought Hall of Famer Larry Brown as an assistant, which only makes them even more intriguing of an option. They may be landing No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Duren for the upcoming season as well, which would mean that he wouldn’t play alongside Black.

The roster is in an interesting spot, as guards Lester Quinones and Landers Nolley could go pro after next season, or could be back for another year. And Memphis has three perimeter players committed in the 2022 class, all of whom are ranked around the top-150. Black certainly would have a role but what it is will be determined by who is around a year from now.
