NCAA Basketball: Takeaways from Team USA in 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup
Patrick Baldwin Jr. – Freshman – UW Milwaukee – 6’10, 190 lbs – November 2022
Baldwin, a highly-touted incoming freshman, had an up-and-down week in the U19’s. He was relatively quiet from a production standpoint, but had some plays that made you understand the hype. Baldwin is billed as a shooter, and while he wasn’t great from deep (9/28) he took them in a large volume and variety.
Baldwin’s height makes his shot hard to block, and he has solid mechanics. He struggled a bit when teams ran him off the line, Developing that mid-range and finishing game will be key in his development.
Collectively, Baldwin was a positive as a team defender and rebounder. He moves his feet and hips well and was aggressive on the glass. The pieces are there for a stretch four at the next level.
Arguably no player on this U19 roster will see more on-ball reps than Baldwin next season, who will be a primary weapon at UW-Milwaukee. While the level of competition isn’t great, Baldwin should continue to grow his game with the reps he will receive, and after watching him in Latvia, that could be very beneficial for his long-term growth. His size and shooting should keep him in the late lottery, mid-first-round of next year’s draft.
