Texas Tech Basketball: Analyzing 3 qualities that make Kevin Obanor special
Make no mistake, new Texas Tech Basketball player Kevin Obanor is one of the better transfers to come out of the portal this off-season. His combination of knockdown shooting, rebounding ability, and basketball IQ make him an absolute nightmare matchup for opposing teams. Here are a few of my favorite Obanor stats from last season:
- 46.3% from 3-pt (1st nationally among forwards, minimum 80 attempts)
- 9.6 rebounds per game (28th nationally, same as Kofi Cockburn)
- 88% free-throw shooter (tied for 22nd nationally)
- 18.7 PPG (52nd nationally)
On top of his regular-season success, Obanor made quite the name for himself in last year’s NCAA Tournament averaging over 23 points & 11 rebounds per game for Oral Roberts. Here’s a quick breakdown of his tournament outings:
- Ohio State (1st round) – 30 points & 11 rebounds
- Flordia (2nd round) – 28 points,11 rebounds, 4 steals
- Arkansas (Sweet 16) – 12 points & 11 rebounds
The stats don’t lie. Kevin Obanor is an absolute baller and lives for the big moments. He will be an instant difference-maker for the Red Raiders and now has a chance to show his skills against some of the best teams in college basketball.
Here are three qualities Obanor brings to the Texas Tech roster:
