Lethal Shooter

As mentioned above, Kevin Obanor is undoubtedly one of the best shooters in college basketball. When you take a look at his tape, you can see how confident he is shooting from practically any distance. At 6’8, his release point is high enough to clear lengthy defenders and his quick release allows him to be virtually unguardable in catch and shoot situations.

Watching Obanors highlights from last year’s NCAA Tournament, you can see the frustration in his defender’s eyes when trying to guard him along the perimeter. Even when defenders give him minimal space, he still manages to get his shot off before the closeout can happen which is a trait all great shooters possess. He also does not shy away from taking contested shots and seems to thrive in the most important moments.

The talented big also shot 88% from the free-throw line last season making him one of the best free-throw shooters in all of college basketball. Considering Texas Tech struggled tremendously last season shooting free throws (71% as a team), Obanor will be someone the staff can rely on at any point of the game to knock down his free-throws and punish teams that are playing sloppy defense.
