Why you should know Jomaru Brown

Eastern Kentucky had a great season last year and finished third in the loaded Ohio Valley a season ago. They did it all without their star player in Jomaru Brown. The junior guard only played in four games a season ago, but in the games he did play he was effective, efficient, and was leading the way for his Eastern Kentucky team. Brown is coming off of shoulder surgery for a torn labrum this year, but given his skillset, he may only need one game or two to knock the rust off.

The guard is an elite scorer and in the two full seasons he has played his ability to score at will has been on full display. Heading into the 2020 season many thought it was going to be a three-player race for the player of the year in the Ohio Valley Conference between Terry Taylor of Austin Peay, Tevin Brown of Murray State, and Brown. He was first-team all OVC during his sophomore campaign and his 18.4 points per game ranked him 12th among fellow sophomores throughout the country. The expectations for the junior heading into last season were earned and warranted.

The guard started his junior season like many thought that he would by scoring he averaged 12 points per game in the brief season and seemed to get it going with 18 points in his last game before getting injured. Brown heads into this season as one of the most decorated players to ever play for the Colonels. He has a 41-point game on his resume, which is the fourth most by any Eastern Kentucky player ever. It only took the guard two full seasons to get to 1,000 career points. Given that Brown still has two years of eligibility left he could feasibly get to 2,000 plus points over his career.

The junior was already one of the best players in the Ohio Valley conference and he now very quickly becomes arguably the top player in the Atlantic Sun. Robin Perry from Stetson is going to have a say in that but Brown has the ability to put up a ton of points really quickly and not only can he put up a ton of points he has the ability to stuff stat sheets and have some really eye-popping lines.

He is going to get fouled a ton, where he is a career 73% free throw shooter. The offense is going to run through Brown and Eastern Kentucky has an explosive offense overall and adding Brown could mean everything between making the tournament and staying at home in March.
