Notre Dame Basketball Coach Mike Brey and the rest of the staff got some good news Wednesday night as big man Dom Campbell committed to the Fighting Irish.

Campbell is a 6’9, 235 lb power forward out of Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, and should in perfectly with the Irish.

The New Hampshire product and Middlesex Magic player had a really good summer on the AAU circuit which caught the attention of many programs. Multiple recruiting sites have Campbell as a top 150 player in the 2022 class. Campbell ended up picking Notre Dame over Oklahoma, Stanford, Tennessee, and others.

Throughout his Irish tenure Coach Brey has recruited the east coast well. This is the second time in the last 10 years a Middlesex Magic player has committed to Notre Dame, as now NBA Champion Pat Connaughton played for the Magic years ago.

It’s an important pickup for the team, as transfer Paul Atkinson and rising senior Nate Laszewski could both leave after next season, leaving a big hole in the frontcourt for the following year. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Notre Dame look for at least one more big man in the 2022 recruiting class.

Coach Brey and the staff should be ecstatic about Campbell committing to Notre Dame. Campbell really has the tools of an inside-out game. You want him to bang inside and be physical? He can do that. Need him to step out and knock down a three? Campbell can do that too. The 6’9 big man really seems to have good footwork around the basketball as well.

Campbell’s game looks a lot like former Irish big man in Bonzie Colson. Campbell may not be the biggest or the strongest, but he does a lot of things well just like Colson did for the Irish. Campbell really seems to play with an edge just like Colson did for many years in South Bend.

If Dom Campbell can be anything like Bonzie Colson was for Notre Dame, then Mike Brey and Notre Dame fans will be very happy watching him play for the next few years in an Irish uniform.
