NBA Draft 2021: Final projections of first 30 draft selections
By William Cash
After the fire sale at the trade deadline, Orlando is looking for a franchise player. They have two picks within the top 10 and I think Orlando is going to try and get the guy with the highest ceiling available, no matter what the position. That guy here is the highly athletic Jonathan Kuminga.
Kuminga was one of the first players who decided to take the G-League route instead of the one-and-done college route, and he averaged 15 points, two assists, and seven rebounds in his first year playing pro basketball.
Kuminga is an athletic freak and can get to the basket in one or two dribbles. He has a nice finishing ability around the rim and can finish with both hands.
Besides that, Kuminga’s game is very raw, as he is not a very good jump shooter or decision-maker. There are also questions about Kuminga’s effort on the defensive end as there are often plays Kuningas takes off defensively.
Orlando has a nice start to the rebuild adding Kuminga with Cole Anthony, R.J. Hampton, Wendell Carter Jr, and whoever they decide to take with the 8th pick.
While Kuminga is a few years away from an all-star level, he will have plenty of time to develop besides a nice core of young players in Orlando.
