NBA Draft 2021: Final projections of first 30 draft selections
By William Cash
Jackson is a very raw player with incredible shot-blocking, athleticism, and is a solid rebounder. But that is about it with what he brings currently. But New York could afford to take a late-round draft pick on someone with Jackson’s floor.
As Taj Gibson is 36 and Nerlens Noel is better used as a backup center. If you’re the Knicks at worse, you get a guy who is a better version of Noel currently and is younger. But if this pans out the Knicks get a guy who has the ceiling to be a solid NBA contributor.
Cam Thomas could go a lot higher than here because of his ability to be able to score the basketball. Thomas averaged 23 points in his freshman season at LSU. The knock-on Thomas is his inability to do things outside of scoring the basketball.
With Thomas here, he could be a guy like former lottery pick Shabazz Muhammad who could score 20 points a night but it not translating to winning. If Thomas can learn to play his role in the NBA and be a spark plug off the bench early in his career, then I think he could be a solid contributor right away for the Hawks.
With all the other question marks in Thomas’ game, I think he will be selected mid to late in the 1st round.
With a good chance of Derrick Rose leave in free agency, New York needs another guy who could provide a scoring spark off the bench. Mann is who is already an excellent shooter and finisher could be able to provide that.
Mann has the ability to create his own shot and is a good floor general. Mann will have to improve his defensive fundamentals as there are often times he is caught sleeping on defense. But Mann could step in and be able to provide a scoring spark off the bench day one in New York.
