NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top-10 options for 5-star SG Shaedon Sharpe
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns had arguably the best offseason of any NCAA Basketball team, landing several top-tier transfers. The most notable name is point guard Marcus Carr, who joins a loaded backcourt alongside seniors Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey. And with the program set to move to the SEC, new head coach Chris Beard and Texas are in a fantastic position to become a real national juggernaut in the real future.
They’re already off to a great start in the 2022 class, landing five-star point guard Artero Morris. But they’re not done, as Texas is reportedly in a strong spot for five-star guard recruits, Keyonte George and Anthony Black. George is similar to Sharpe as a primary off-ball guard so it may be hard to envision the Longhorns being able to pick both. If George picks Texas in the next couple of weeks, expect them to focus more on Black than Sharpe going forward.
USC Trojans
The last couple of five-star prospects for USC ended up as top-10 picks in Onyeka Okongwu and Evan Mobley. But they were frontcourt prospects. The guards for this program haven’t been stellar in the past few years under head coach Andy Enfield, which is why they’re looking to land something near to a sure bet such as Sharpe.
The Trojans have Memphis transfer Boogie Ellis alongside a core of top-100 recruits in Malik Thomas and Reese Dixon-Waters. Unless one of them breaks out this next season, Sharpe could easily come in and be the top offensive option, while being an individual star in Los Angeles. With Name, Image, and Likeness now in play, that could be a major selling point that helps USC land a five-star talent.
