NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking 7 contenders for top-100 forward Malik Reneau
6. Miami Hurricanes
One of three local options for the state of Florida native, the Hurricanes are also involved in the Duren sweepstakes. If they get him and have a successful season that ends up in the NCAA Tournament, that could be the sunset end for head coach Jim Larranaga, who’ll turn 72 years old by the start of October. That’s because the roster also has grad transfer Charlie Moore and star guard Isaiah Wong, a 2022 NBA Draft candidate.
If all three leave, as well as the head coach possibly, Reneau would be joining a program rebuilding and could take a while before getting back into contention. He certainly would be able to come in and get immediate playing time in the frontcourt but among the three in-state options, Miami is the least appealing for the 2022-23 campaign.
5. Arkansas Razorbacks
Technically speaking, Arkansas doesn’t even have a traditional power forward either on the roster or among the three current class of 2022 commits. But head coach Eric Musselman loves versatility among his frontcourt players, which is why he added 6’6 forwards Au’Diese Toney and Trey Wade, along with incoming combo forward Chance Moore.
And Coach Musselman and the Razorbacks have also been known to add plenty of transfers each offseason, who’ll get play over freshmen unless they’re stars like a Moses Moody. Seeing former top-100 recruits Davonte Davis and Jaylin Williams potentially getting recruited over via transfer pickups would make me nervous committing early in playing time is important.
