St. Bonaventure Basketball recently completed its 2021 recruiting class. How’d they do?

The Saint Bonaventure Bonnies are at a thorough disadvantage in the recruiting, even among Atlantic -10 clubs; however, that hasn’t stopped coach Mark Schmidt from being successful. Schmidt has guided the Bonnies to eight straight winning seasons despite the fact that his last two recruiting classes being unranked. In fact, the Bonnies have never secured a four-star recruit, and Ndene Guye (2017) is their highest-rated signee. According to Verbal Commits, SBU recruits averages 2.2 stars which rank 11th among conference teams.

While the Bonnies haven’t done extremely well with big-time school recruits, Schmidt has done a fabulous job bringing in transfers, particularly from the JUCO ranks. Jaren Holmes and Jalen Adaway are two prime examples of the Bonnies’ transfer success.

St. Bonaventure will have all five starters back in 2021-22, and the Bonnies have eight brought in eight newcomers, with Brett Rumpel filling out the class with his commitment on Aug. 2. Here is a look at the team’s 2021 recruiting class.

8. Brett Rumpel, Binghamton (NY)

The 6-4 guard, who was originally slated to play a postseason season at Spire Institute, showed off an uncanny ability to put the ball in the hoop with excellent marksmanship. Rumpel averaged 37.2 points over the last two varsity seasons while connecting on 52% of his field-goal attempts for Seton Catholic. He tallied 364 (45.5 ppg) and knocked down 32 triples in eight contests this past high school campaign.

Scouting report: Possesses good athleticism and length. Capable of getting to the rim off the dribble. Quick-release with a smooth shooting stroke. Excellent distributor.

7. Justin Ndjock-Tadjore, Gatineau, Quebec

The 6-8 wing is very long and athletic. He is a good shooter who also likes to attack the rim.
