Big Ten Basketball: Top 20 impact transfers heading into 2021-22 season
No. 10 Jaheam Cornwall – Penn State
It is fitting that the Gardner-Webb transfer starts off the top ten of the list. While on his way to being named to the 2020-21 All-Big South team, the 6-foot guard was in the top ten in a multitude of categories and will hope to continue this success with the Nittany Lions. His ability to dribble, drive, and dish will ensure that the point guard gets put directly into the Nittany Lions’ starting five.
Due to his height, the majority of his fourteen points a game came as a result of pulling up for a jumper as opposed to driving to the basket. At almost four assists per game, Cornwall’s shot attempts were limited to just eleven per game, but six of them were from behind the arc and he connected on over two per game, combined with his floater in the paint, the loss of Jamari Wheeler will be easier to handle for Nittany Lions fans.
With four games with at least twenty points, plus a thirty-two point game on his resume from last season, Cornwall is primed to not only replace one of the top three scorers who departed from Penn State but will turn John Harrar from an under nine points per game player, to at least the almost thirteen points Izaiah Brockington averaged.
Penn State was fifth in the conference in Pace of Play with under seventy possessions per forty minutes, the addition of Cornwall could possibly lift them to the top three quickest playing teams in the conference.
