UNC Basketball got a huge coup late in the 2021 recruiting period, how did that addition affect the recruiting class ranking?

Everyone knew that following Hall of Famer Roy Williams wasn’t going to be easy for UNC alum and former assistant, under Williams, Hubert Davis but he won’t just be judged on his in-game coaching ability and ability to develop players but also his recruiting. Williams, who posted a 485-163 record at UNC along with 3 national championships, had each of his last five recruiting classes  (2016-20) ranked in the 247 Sports top 20.

Meanwhile, Davis, who has to replace three key players from last year’s squad, had his first recruiting class ranked is ranked 40th in the nation by 247 Sports and 34th by Rivals.com. The first-year coach signed two incoming freshmen, both consensus 4-star recruits, and brought in three transfers. Davis does have two scholarships available for 2021-22 but it is unknown whether he will use them.

Here is a look at which recruits are likely to make the biggest impact in 2021-22.

5. D’Marco Dunn

The 6-4, 180-pound is a consensus top-100 recruit who has good size and athleticism. He is also very versatile and a skilled shot-maker with the ability to score at three levels.

UNC is pretty loaded at the guard position, even if they use a three-guard lineup, with Caleb Love along with RJ Davis, Leaky Blake, and Anthony Harris ahead of him. Puff Johnson and Kerwin Walton would also be ahead of him if Davis uses the three-guard option. And don’t forget Andrew Platek. So, while I do expect Dunn to see action this year, I don’t believe it will be more than 10 minutes a game.
