NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking rising senior Justyn Fernandez’s top 10 teams
3. North Carolina State Wolfpack
Kevin Keatts got the Wolfpack back to mediocrity, and this is not a putdown, as they have posted four straight winning seasons. NC State is 79-46 under the fifth-year coach and 39-34 in ACC play. The Wolfpack, who offered a scholarship on Aug. 6, could use some depth on the wing next season.
2. George Mason Patriots
"“[Head coach] Kim English is very genuine. The entire coaching staff is genuine guys. All of those guys are super genuine and invested.”"
GMU went 13-9 last season, marking the fifth straight season the Patriots have won at least that many games. English, a first-time head coach, replaces Dave Paulsen, who went 95-91 with the Patriots.
Mason could use an increase in talent overall and does need to add depth at the 3. George Mason has received a verbal commitment from 3-star point guard Devin Dinkins.
Fernandez took an official visit to the Fairfax campus on June 21.
1. Virginia Tech Hokies
Mike Young has done an excellent job since taking over the Hokies’ program from Buzz Wiliams. Young, who is 31-23 in two years, led Va. Tech to the NCAA Tournament last year. The Hokies are set for the future at shooting guard, with Naheim Alleyne and Darius Maddux, although they could use depth at the position. Small forward is definitely a position of concern going forward. They do have a verbal commitment from 3-star shooting guard M.J. Collins.
The Lynchburg (Va.) native will take his time in going through the process. I expect him to slash the list to a handful of teams or so before deciding, which Fernandez said likely won’t happen until 2022.
