This edition of Daily NCAA Basketball Musings will look at Overtime Elite signing 2023 prospect Tyler Smith along with Texas A&M and Minnesota recruiting news as well as Pelle Larsson breaking his foot.

2023 4+ star forward Tyler Smith forgoes college

A consensus top-20 2023 recruit Tyler Smith signed with Overtime Elite on Sunday.

"“This is different and new,” Smith told ESPN. “I wanted to be a pro already, working on stuff that NBA players work on. In high school, you can’t work out as much as they do at OTE.”"

Smith was rated as a 4+ star prospect, earning five stars from ESPN and 247Sports Composite. ESPN rated as the No. 8 recruit in the class while 247 Sports Composite had him at No. 15 and 247Sports listed at No. 19 while Rivals had him at No. 18. He held offers from  Kansas, Baylor, Texas, Florida State, Oklahoma, Memphis, LSU, and others.

The 6-9 forward, who won’t turn 17 until November, signed a two-year, “seven-figure” contract with OTE. Smith is the 16th player to sign with Overtime Elite, which is looking to add eight more players before the team assembles in September. OTE is expected to break its players into three teams. The teams will play against each other as well as against academies, prep schools in the United States, and international teams abroad. Former UConn coach Kevin Ollie leads the squad.
