3. Jamarius Burton

The 6-4 guard, who is at his third school in three years, will be counted on heavily to help replace the production of Xavier Johnson and Trey McGowen, both who transferred from Pitt, as well as provide leadership.

Burton saw his role reduce last year with Texas Tech after being in the starting lineup for most of his two seasons at Wichita State. He averaged 4.1 points and 1.8 assists as the Charlotte (NC) native started four games and saw less than 20 minutes of action per contest.

Burton is a high-volume scorer, i.e., not a great shooter, who also is a good distributor, although turnovers are a problem. He is also active defensively.

“We want him and need him to be a really good player,”  Capel said. “I think he has tremendous leadership qualities.

“He comes from two really outstanding programs that have won, have been in the postseason each year. Both of the programs embody toughness, togetherness, and things like that, and, hopefully, those are the things, being an older guy, he can help instill here in our program.”
