NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 10 options for five-star big Yohan Traore
Louisville Cardinals
With Malik Williams leaving after next season, the center position for Louisville will be up to Junior College transfer Sydney Curry and incoming four-star freshman Roosevelt Wheeler. So this is a spot where Traore can come in and get minutes and a likely starting spot. Coach Chris Mack has done a solid job recruiting but the development has been a bit of a question, outside of Jordan Nwora a couple of years ago.
LSU Tigers
There’s already a lot of frontcourt depth for the Tigers for the upcoming season in five-star freshman Efton Reid, as well as top-50 center Jerrell Colbert and Cincy transfer forward Tari Eason. If Reid isn’t a “one and done” NBA Draft prospect, that could cause issues for the roster, as someone will likely have to depart. For Traore, there are simply better options in terms of guaranteed playing time as a freshman.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers are likely to have incoming five-star prospects, Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates for one season so they’ll need potentially someone like Traore to come in and have an impact in the frontcourt. Where I would be concerned is like Louisville, Memphis doesn’t have a great track record with development and the big man is similar to Moussa Cisse, a former five-star big that struggled last season before transferring to Oklahoma State. But there’s playing time and a lot of spotlight available for Traore here.
