After not being as aggressive in the 2021 recruiting class, Virginia Basketball has made up for it in a big way so far with the 2022 group. And they took a big step with the commitment of top-100 power forward prospect Isaac Traudt.

Traudt is a 6’9-6’10 power forward out of the state of Nebraska and is one of the best offensive players in the class that’ll be around for more than one year. He’s a naturally good shooter and all-around scorer that has a low-post game and can strech opposing defenses with his three-point shooting.

Traudt’s size and athlectism bodes well for him at the ACC level, where he can create mismatches. The natural comparison for him will be Sam Hauser’s Virginia’s leading scorer from last season who was a 40% three-point shooter. However, Traudt may be more athletic and have a higher all-around ceiling, while eligible to play for the team for as many as four years.

Ranked No. 55 overall according to 247sportsComposite, Traudt is the highest-rated commit for the Cavaliers in the 2022 class. But it’s setting up to be an eltie one, as they already have commitments from guard Isaac McKneely and wing Leon Bond, both of whom are also in the top-100 overall. The last time this happened for the program was in 2016, with the core of De’Andre Hunter, Kyle Guy, Ty Jerome, and Jay Huff. And we know what that resulted for the UVA program in a couple of years.

It won’t be long before we see Traudt have an impact for Virginia Basketball, as I can see him have a sizeable role even as a freshman. East Carolina transfer forward Jayden Gardner very well could be around for one season before going pro and incoming 6’9 freshman Igor Miličić may or may not be ready for big minutes and a starting position for the 2022-23 season.

I feel that Isaac Traudt can be and even if there are some freshman growing pains to go through, Virginia will need his size and spacing in the frontcourt to compete against the top teams in the ACC. This is a massive pickup for the Cavaliers and this future core of players will keep them right around the top of the conference ladder.
