Northwestern Basketball makes big splash with 2022 PG Rowan Brumbaugh
When it comes to landing talent, it can be hard for head coach Chris Collins and Northwestern Basketball. The high educational standards and lack of a winning history can be an issue on the recruiting trail but it can also be a selling point for regional prospects looking for a great education and don’t want to go out west to Stanford.
And if there’s potential early playing time available, that can help seal the deal. That looks to be the case for the Wildcats with Rowan Brumbaugh, a consensus four-star point guard in the 2022 class that 247sportsComposite has ranked in the top-100 overall.
The 6’4 and 185-pound point guard is one of the better overall ball-handlers, capable of facilitating an offense and getting his teammates involved. Brumbaugh is skilled overall and besides being a good decision-maker, he can shoot the ball fairly well and be a threat from three-point range. He’s a starting-caliber playmaker that gives Northwestern a future impact player with high potential.

Brumbaugh is a massive get for the Wildcats for multiple reasons. He’s one of the highest-rated commits in program history according to 247sportsComposite and is a quality centerpiece for what could be a dynamic class. He also gives the team a point guard for the future, as current starting guard Boo Buie is entering his junior campaign and could go pro if he has a big-time campaign.
If not, Buie and Brumbaugh could play together on the court for one season or the prospect can simply wait his turn behind the senior Buie in limited action before taking over as a sophomore. While the current core is filled with upperclassmen, Brumbaugh, along with incoming freshmen, Brooks Barnhizer, Casey Simmons, and Julian Roper, can be the start of a fairly competitive group in the Big Ten.
Brumbaugh picked Northwestern over the likes of Maryland, Georgetown, Kansas, and Texas, making this a massive recruiting win for the coaching staff and program long-term. We’ll see how the Wildcats build off of this pickup but thanks to this point guard commitment, now enters the Fall with a quality commit on board and a positional need taken care of.
