When it came to the 2022 NCAA Basketball Recruiting class, most of the talk has been surrounding Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren, the No. 1 and 2 overall players in the entire group. However, with both of them reclassifying and heading to Memphis for the upcoming season, there’s now plenty of discussion as to who the new No. 1 recruit is in the 2022 class.

There has yet to be a consensus, as various reputable recruiting services has different players at the top. Guys that have been receiving top votes includes UCLA guard commit Amari Bailey, top big man Dereck Lively Jr., as shooting guard Shaedon Sharpe, whose play on the AAU circuit solidified him as one of the best pure scorers in the entire class.

The 6’5 guard originally from Glendale, Arizona has it all; athleticism, size, the ability to easily create his own offense and can shoot the lights out of it. There are simply very few weaknesses and Sharpe is the kind of scorer that can average around 20 ppg in the right situation in college.

Around a month ago, there were 10 programs in the running for Sharpe. That has now been cut in half, with Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Arizona, and the NBA G League now left. One of them will get the top-5 overall prospect and we’re going to find out soon as well.

Which of the five options makes the most sense for Sharpe. I’ve looked at his potential fit earlier but this time, I’ll be looking at some reasons why or why not he should choose those options.
