Purdue Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2021-22 season
Small Forward
This year’s forward crop for Purdue gets some much-needed help. Trevion Williams returns to campus after leading the team in scoring (15.5) and rebounding (9.1) last season. The 6-10 senior led the Boilermakers in either scoring or rebounding in 22 of the 28 games they played last season and expect he and Ivey to form one of the strongest backcourt-frontcourt duos in the Big Ten.
As I said earlier, I expect Purdue to continue with their four-guard lineup, meaning the 6-6 Mason Gillis and 6-5 Sasha Stefanovic should fill the other two “forward” positions. Stefanovic is the sharpshooter of the group if there is one. The 6-5 Indiana native made 40% of his team-high 125 attempts last season.
When guarding Stefanovic there really isn’t much need to be inside the three-point line as he shot just 17-36 on two-point shots last season. Both Newman and Gillis have the ability to also slide into that “small forward” role to give Stefanovic a breather.
