Purdue Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2021-22 season
Centers
Last season the center group for Purdue consisted of two men, Williams who stirs the drink for the Boilermakers and basically runs the offense from the post as the lone forward in the starting line up and the 7-4 big man from Toronto sophomore Zach Edey. After a very solid freshman year, he spent the summer in Latvia with teammates Caleb Furst and Jaden Ivey playing in the FIBA U19 World Cup for Canada.
Edey was perhaps the most impressive of the Boilermakers in the tournament where he helped Canada finish third by averaging 15 points and 14 rebounds. He even had a 16-point and 16-rebound effort in the semifinal loss to the United States. The numbers in Latvia were a stark improvement over the 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds he averaged as a freshman, which could mean fans can expect a more assertive Edey on both ends of the floor this season.
As I mentioned earlier, I am sure we will see both Kaufman-Renn and Furst seeing time at center for Purdue this season. The ability to use the versatility of both Kaufman-Renn and Furst as both centers in a potential three or four-guard lineup or playing alongside Williams or even Edey at times will give opponents of Purdue quite a different frontcourt look than they saw at any time last season.
Even with virtually the same roster, the addition of two versatile pieces makes Purdue a slightly different and even more dangerous team.
