AAC Basketball: Examining 8 potential candidates for expansion

Boise State
This past weekend there was a college football game between two of the more dynamic Group of Five programs, so why not use one to replace the other one? Boise State has been a powerhouse in college football in recent memory, going all the way back to that Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma more than a decade ago. Throw in the fact that the basketball program has been trending in the right direction in recent years and you could have a fantastic addition to the AAC.
The AAC needs to expand not only to increase their member count but also to recoup the talent they are losing with the three schools departing the league. Yes, Boise State is hundreds (thousands) of miles west of all the current members. However, the AAC may need to expand their footprint far west to remain a top-notch conference and the addition of Boise State would certainly help out on the football side of things.
The big question is would Boise State (or other west coast schools) want to make the move to the AAC? If the conference can swing the Broncos and a few more of these schools, then they can give the conference the big boost to get back on track. Boise State alone is not going to replace what they’re losing, especially without Cincinnati and Houston in basketball, but it’s a start that would need to be paired with a few more schools in the area.
