In this offseason alone, we’ve had over 1,700 D-I  Men’s NCAA Basketball players that have entered the transfer portal. Really talented guys have switched teams all over, bolstering respective teams for the upcoming season.

In the past few months, there have been a number of individuals that have made national news by transferring. Players such as Walker Kessler, Jayden Gardner, Dawson Garcia, and others went from high major to high major teams, while former mid-major stars such as Wendell Green Jr., Kevin Obanor, and Tyson Walker went from small programs to bigger names.

But while they’ll have plenty of attention in upcoming team and conference previews, there are over 1,000 players that have joined mid-major programs as well. That includes guys who either went from mid-major to mid-major or some that “went down” to the low-level schools. But depending on who teams get, that one player could change the tide of the program.

Previous examples from last season include Josh Mballa, who went from little playing time at Texas Tech to become a double-double machine at Buffalo. Also, there was Jaquori McLaughlin, a former Oregon State player that ended up winning Big West Player of the Year and leading UC Santa Barbara to the NCAA Tournament.

There are plenty of players who can do something similar, as well as mid-major stars who transferred over to another small school and will have a major impact there also. This piece is largely about focusing on guys who are currently flying under the radar on the national level but will be players to watch this upcoming season.

This piece will involve 50 players total (5 per page), all featuring players who transferred to mid-major programs for the upcoming season. This excludes the power five conferences + Big East and AAC and won’t include any former power conference player that averaged double figures this past year, so Fresno State’s Jamarl Baker or Weber State’s Koby McEwen isn’t eligible.

It’s too difficult to rank overall so it will go in order of conference affiliation… Atlantic Sun to WAC.
