Oklahoma State Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2021-22
By Andrew Tineo
Three-Guard/Small Forward
Starter: Bryce Thompson
The former five-star recruit did not have the freshman season at Kansas but will be in a much better situation with the Cowboys.
Thompson only earned 17 minutes a game with the Jayhawks and four starts. After his 12 point performance in the season opener against Gonzaga, Thompson was few and far between, an impact player. Especially on a team that lacked a true elite scorer.
With the depth, youth, and higher potential for an expanded role, Thompson should be the most improved player for this Cowboys team, and quite possibly, the most improved in the conference.
Thompson possesses good size and is a lethal three-point shooter when given the opportunity. His passing ability is among the best on the team, and immediately impacts the game and can play at the two and occasional three, standing at 6-foot-5.
Bench: Tyreek Smith
The fellow Big 12 transfer that will rack up some minutes on the bench is Tyreek Smith. Smith used a medical redshirt in 2019-2020 and played very little in 2020-2021.
Although Smith is raw and had minimal production, he made 37% of his three-point shots and has great size at six foot seven inches.
With many players in the backcourt, the potential is sky-high, but how much of that will be reached in 2021-2022. Smith falls in that same category and is someone hopeful of receiving 12-15 minutes a game
