Over the last few seasons, the CAA Basketball has had some of the best overall players in the country. Nathan Knight from William & Mary, Justin Wright-Foreman from Hofstra, and Marcus Thornton from William & Mary are the players who have played or are currently playing in the NBA from the conference. Former James Madison player Matt Lewis looks to join these individuals as he currently has a deal in place with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The league is also a popular place for power coaches to come and scout the players currently playing in the league and do whatever it takes to poach a star player from a roster. In the reverse, the league is also a popular destination for players from a lesser conference to essentially transfer up and play in a better league. Since the league’s best players move on to better conferences or pro ball and some teams have greater scholarship flexibility to add more players from other conferences it helps keep the league competitive and stops a team from becoming a dynasty.

The James Madison Dukes went from one of the worst teams in the country in 2019-2020 when they only won nine games. Last season they were the Colonial regular-season champs and had the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in Matt Lewis. The Dukes were upset in the conference tournament so they were not part of the March Madness event but it was a fantastic turnaround.

This season Lewis is no longer on campus but the keys to the offense are going to go to another player who was a huge piece for the Dukes last season. Vado Morse enters his redshirt junior season as one of the most intriguing players in the league and has a chance to add his name to those players from the conference who have the opportunity to hear their name called in the NBA draft this offseason.
