I think we can all agree that missing out on intriguing transfers in 2021 was nearly impossible, considering that there were more than 1,000 players that wanted to explore other opportunities once the 2020-21 season concluded.

Needless to say, there were many exceptional big men that were highly regarded in the offseason, but in my opinion, the large number of elite guards that opted to put themselves on the market headlined the 2021 transfer portal. Marcus Carr, Boogie Ellis, James Akinjo, Xavier Johnson, and Jacob Young are just a few examples of big-time guards that were up for grabs in the offseason.

As a result of this, SEC coaches that could do nothing as their guards went out looking for new homes had no choice but to get to work in the spring/summer. Additionally, several legitimate NBA guard prospects in the SEC didn’t waste much time declaring for the NBA Draft as soon as the challenging 2020-21 season came to an end, which also forced SEC coaches to be incredibly productive during the offseason.

Now, while SEC coaches can’t tell you if the guards they managed to reel in will pan out in the long run, they can tell you that they were able to obtain gifted players that have the potential to help out their respective programs.

So, which five SEC Basketball transfer guards do I think you should keep a close eye on in 2021-22? Well, I would advise you to keep reading this article if you wish to find out the answer to that question.
