NCAA Basketball: Examining 10 potential moves in conference realignment
By Joey Loose
Oklahoma State to Pac-12
This particular rumor was running more rampant a few weeks ago, back when many assumed the Big 12 would collapse and join the other aligned power conference programs. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech were both expected to be potential additions to the Pac-12, and either still could wind up in the conference somewhere down the line. We’ll focus solely on Oklahoma State, though it’s possible they could be a package deal with the Red Raiders.
Oklahoma State’s basketball and football programs are not only both in solid shape but would both contribute to the Pac-12 from the beginning. Though they have teeth sunk into those late windows, the Pac-12 doesn’t get the kind of attention that conferences like the Big 12, Big Ten, or SEC get from the national media. Rumors of Oklahoma and Texas joining and boosting the Pac-12 into a super conference are long dead, but the idea of their rivals taking their place is actually not a horrible one.
At the present time, the Pac-12 seems content with staying at twelve schools, but you never know what could happen as the dominos continue to fall. If the conference loses a member, maybe they go after a program like Oklahoma State, knowing what that could do to strengthen the conference. If their basketball programs keeps growing, the Cowboys could absolutely do some damage in the Pac-12, which has been the weakest power conference in recent years.
