San Diego State to Pac-12

First and foremost, consider that there are various directions that conference realignment could go. The Pac-12 seems like a league unwilling to expand beyond twelve members, especially if new schools aren’t bringing in new markets or raising the talent level in the league. We know that there are a few Mountain West schools that would be intriguing additions to the AAC or Big 12, but why not think about the Pac-12?

San Diego State is trending in a great direction, with their basketball program in a great place and football likewise trending upwards. They have a slight academics advantage over a school like Boise State, and they make more sense from an athletics standpoint than a Colorado State. Any of those schools could find their way into the AAC in the coming months, but if you’re San Diego State, why not shoot for the stars?

There are many reasons why this move could fail, especially considering the Pac-12 already has two fantastic programs in southern California. If the Pac-12 does choose to expand, whether to 14 or 16 teams, San Diego State is absolutely one of the first that they should call. It’s a sensible move for the Aztecs, and it’s a move that could easily include other Mountain West teams, especially with Gonzaga and the Pac-12 seemingly not a match.
