NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing C Christ Essandoko top 7 teams

Coming into the start of the high school basketball live period, Christ Essandoko was considered an afterthought on the recruiting trail. However, the 7’0 center lost a ton of weight to get down to around 250 pounds, which allowed him to show a skillset in the post that made him an intriguing class of 2022 NCAA Basketball recruit.

Now listed as a three-star and top-150 overall recruit, mid and high-major programs have been showing plenty of interest in the past few months. Essandoko hails from France but currently resides in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He’s a big body with solid footwork and his interior presence will be a boost for teams looking for a 3-4 year frontcourt player.

Essandoko’s recruitment has entered the next stage, with seven NCAA Basketball programs now in the running. Which of them has the best chance to land the seven-footer? And which roster allows the easiest path to playing time? Here’s how I would view the potential fit.

Georgetown Hoyas

The Hoyas work with All-Big center Qudus Wahab, along with having Hall of Fame basketball center Patrick Ewing, will make a legit option for most big men. Although they lost Wahab to the transfer portal, Georgetown does have four-star center prospect Ryan Mutombo on the roster for the future. They also have backups Malcolm Wilson and Timothy Igohoefe to provide depth as well.

If Mutombo becomes a starting-caliber big man, Essandoko would have to settle being the backup for a year or two until he graduates, transfers, or goes pro. And that very well could be the ideal scenario for the three-star prospect, as he’s not ready for starting minutes at the Big East level. A couple of years of development with the Hoyas would allow him to shine years from now.
