10. Julian Champagnie – St. John’s – Junior – 6’8, 220 lbs – June 2001

The leading scorer in the Big East tested the waters but ultimately elected to return after an uninspiring NBA combine. Champagnie is already a plus shooter. He shot just 37% on threes but took and made some difficult ones.

Champagnie needs to improve his in-between game, shooting just 36.7% on non-rim two’s. He’s also been an unwilling playmaker and has struggled to create off of his shooting gravity. Defenses can run him off the line. He posted decent steal and block numbers but is by no means a lockdown defender. To fulfill his role at the next level as a “three-and-D” guy, he’ll need to be better on that end.

There’s something to be said for a 6’8 player with serious shooting versatility, but the ancillary skills and passing need to take a leap this year for Champagnie to be a first-round prospect.
