SEC Basketball: Top 30 impact transfers heading into 2021-22 season
By Matt Melton
18. G CJ Fredrick – Kentucky Wildcats
Previous School: Iowa
The 2018 Kentucky High School Player of the Year, Fredrick would attend Iowa where he would start all 52 games over the past two seasons. During that time, Fredrick would average a combined 8.8 PPG on 46.6% shooting from three, while also being named to the 2019-20 Big Ten All-Freshman team.
Now a redshirt junior, Fredrick transfers to Kentucky where he should play an important role in the Wildcats backcourt. Instantly becoming one of the top three-point shooters in the SEC, Fredrick could start for Kentucky this season, but could also be one of the top overall bench options in the entire conference.
17. F DJ Jeffries – Mississippi State Bulldogs
Previous School: Memphis
A former Top 50 overall recruit, Jeffries spent the past two seasons at Memphis where he started in 24 of 47 games. Averaging a combined 10.3 PPG and 4.8 RPG across those two seasons, Jeffries also shot a combined 47.1% from the field, as well as 36.6% from three.
Jeffries will likely slot into the starting lineup as the Bulldogs starting small forward and is a popular breakout candidate this season in the SEC. With the Bulldogs having notable depth at the guard and post positions, Jeffries will be an important player for Mississippi State as a versatile wing option who can score from all three levels, as well as rebound well for his position.
