Point Guard

Starter: Prentiss Hubb

2020-21 stats: 14.6 PPG, 5.8 APG, 3.2 RPG, 48.7% eFG, 36.9 MPG

Prentiss Hubb played the most minutes of any player in the ACC last year and has the highest returning usage rate in the league as well. He played all game, every game last season, and will do it again in 2021-22.

Hubb has somewhat of a reputation for being a streaky offensive player, but his production remains consistent. There are periods where his shot seemingly goes cold, but he doubles as one of the best passers in the country so he can easily create offense for the team, if not for himself.

Hubb’s impact as a player is immense—both as a talent and a leader—something Mike Brey has never failed to acknowledge. Having an experienced, level-headed point guard like Hubb is difficult to find and almost impossible to replace.

Bench: Trey Wertz

2020-21 stats: 8.3 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, 51.7% eFG, 26.4 MPG

Senior Trey Wertz will likely be the first man off the bench for Notre Dame, although most of his minutes will come on the wing. However, in the spare few minutes that Hubb is rested, Wertz will fill the gap as a versatile combo guard.

To be quite honest, the traditional role of backup point guard will hardly be relevant for Notre Dame thanks to Hubb’s endurance and consistency.

Walk-on point guard Alex Wade could also see some spot minutes throughout the season, although nothing consistent.
