Small Forward

Starter: Dane Goodwin

2020-21 stats: 11.8 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 50.6% eFG, 33.3 MPG

Goodwin is officially listed as a guard but will play most of his minutes at small forward again this season due to a surplus of guards on Notre Dame’s roster.

Goodwin’s offensive production is irreplaceable for the Irish. While not nearly as efficient a three-point shooter as Trey Wertz, he is effective enough to stretch the defense. To put it quite simply, he just knows how to get open. He consistently creates high-quality opportunities for himself and his teammates. Goodwin is a prime example of someone who impacts winning despite rarely being the star of the highlight reel.

Bench: Tony Sanders Jr.

2020-21 stats: 1.0 PPG, 5.4 MPG, 15 GP

Sanders only played meaningful minutes in four games last season, a number that should grow slightly this season. With Ryan, Goodwin, Wertz, and Carmody, his spot on the depth chart as a wing is still low, but his contonued development should be enough to earn him some quality minutes off the bench this season.

A Miami product, Sanders was a 3-star commit in the class of 2020. He has four full years of eligibility remaining—plenty of time to grow into an impact forward for the Irish.

Bench: J.R. Konieczny

247Sports: No. 137 overall, No. 29 SF, 3-star

Konieczny was offered by Butler, Creighton, Iowa, and Valparaiso, but ended up committing to Notre Dame which is hardly a surprise given that he is from South Bend.

At 6’6”, 187 pounds, Konieczny will likely be more comfortable defensively in a guard role, at least initially. He has good athleticism, but the general size and speed of Division I basketball, especially in the ACC, will take time to adjust to.
