They will attempt a lot of three-pointers

The Villanova Wildcats are no strangers to the three-point shot. During the 2020-21 season, they attempted 25.9 three-pointers per game, while never attempting fewer than 14 in any game. The only difference this season is that the Wildcats may end up as the team with the most attempts as opposed to the second-most in the Big East.

As the Blue/White scrimmage demonstrated, the combination of starting point guard Gillespie and backup Chris Arcidiacono are going to put up a lot of shots from that position. Arcidiacono especially, if he catches the ball, look for him to shoot and look for him to be more successful than last season. While averaging under ten minutes per game Arcidiacono attempted fewer than one attempt per game as eleven of his attempted twelve three-pointers on the season occurred after Gillespie’s injury.

It is also unknown how much time freshman Angelo Brizzi will get on the court, as he looks to be slated behind Gillespie and Arcidiacono on the depth chart. If he does step on the court, he will be in for one purpose and one purpose only. His ability to knock down open three-pointers will determine how much playing time the 6’3 Highland High School graduate gets.
