4. Who will be Dayton’s best player this season?

Bernstein

I believe it has to be Mustapha Amzil. The Flyers are a very young team after losing a lot of talent. But, Amzil is the only starter returning this season. Last season, he started 15 of 19 games, averaged 9.9 points per game, and was named to the A-10 All-Rookie team. I believe this will be the year that Amzil breaks out for Dayton.

Mustapha Amzil is maybe one of the more underrated talents in the conference. At 6’10 he can stretch the floor and shoot better than just about anyone of his size becoming a real game-breaker. He was an All-Conference Rookie last season and despite a really talented group of Flyers coming in this year, I’m looking to him to be Dayton’s lead dog.

Cronin

Toumani Camara. I’ll ignore the temptation to pick Zimi Nwokeji and instead go with the seemingly safe pick with the Georgia transfer. Camara immediately gives the Flyers the gritty power forward they desperately missed last year and he should be expected to lead the team in rebounding and improve the interior defense, two factors that will lead to him topping the roster in minutes despite a deep frontcourt. Camara won’t lead the team in scoring (Nwokeji or Mustapha Amzil will) but his intangibles and rebounding will make him the Flyers MVP.
