Florida Basketball landed a number of transfers this offseason. Why Phlandrous Fleming Jr. may end up being the most impactful.

When looking at the countless moves made throughout the college basketball offseason, there are obviously numerous that stick-out across the country. However, there is one move in particular that may not have garnered as much attention as others that may provide one of the biggest impacts of all.

As you likely know by now, that move was Florida Basketball landing Charleston Southern transfer guard Phlandrous Fleming Jr.

When looking at every single college basketball transfer of the offseason, it’ll be hard to find a player with a better previous resume than Fleming. A four-year player with the Buccaneers, Fleming started in 86 of 101 career games where he averaged a combined 15 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 2.7 APG for his career.

Looking back at Fleming’s time at Charleston Southern overall, the 6’5 guard scored a total of 1,510 points in his career, as well as a history of phenomenal performances that include 30 20+ point games and 23 double-doubles.

Taking a look at the 2020-21 season alone, Fleming averaged 20.1 PPG and 7.4 RPG for the Buccaneers, as well as being named First-Team All-Big South and Big South Defensive Player of the Year, both for the second consecutive season.

Clearly an experienced player even before he takes the court in Gainesville, Fleming has the potential to provide a massive impact for the Gators this season on both ends of the court.

A talented offensive player, Fleming can score from all three levels and is a career 30.4% three-point shooter who has a history of big shots and special offensive performances in his career. Having led Charleston Southern in scoring each of the past two seasons, Fleming is certainly a candidate to do the same with the Gators this season on a team loaded with potential candidates.

A previously mentioned two-time Big South Defensive Player of the Year, Fleming excels when defending on the perimeter, and has the ability to switch onto multiple positions. An excellent rebounder for his position as well, Fleming should also collect his fair share of steals and blocks, an area he also has excelled in previous years.
