Shooting Guard and Wing

Where the point guard position is thin, the guard and wing positions are as deep as it gets for the Wildcats. Dalen Terry, Kier, and Larrson all will vie for major playing time this season at the “2” spot. As of now, Terry is the favorite to start at the beginning of the season.

Terry is an elite defender at the position thanks to his long wingspan and 6-foot-7 frame. He’s the likely starter as well thanks to his solid court vision, but could also serve time at the wing and small-ball four. He’s still improving his shooting form which has been a point of emphasis for Lloyd’s staff. Terry shot 32% from three last season and 41% from the field.

Larrson’s calling card, however, is his shooting. He shot 46.3% from the perimeter last season and could earn major minutes if he keeps that efficiency up. His decision-making needs to improve, averaging 2.7 turnovers last year, albeit largely due to playing the point guard position. He’s a perfect player for Lloyd’s heavy ball-movement system. Larrson is recovering from a broken bone in his foot from earlier in the offseason, but should hopefully be ready by the start of the season or near it.

Kier is going to help lead Lloyd’s system as a veteran in the college game. Kier has a decent perimeter shot, shooting 36% from outside last year. Kier will be vital for Wildcats’ euro-style passing as a combo guard that confidently makes the right decisions. He averaged 2.4 assists per game last year.

Freshman Shane Nowell will also fight for playing time. The 4-star recruit is a pure sharpshooter that decided to stick with the Wildcats even though Lloyd and staff weren’t the ones that recruited him.
