Schedule Outlook

Last season, San Diego State had seven nonconference games but those games made quite an impact. They knocked off UCLA in their season opener by 15 points before later upsetting a ranked Arizona State squad on the road by double-digits. A home loss to BYU in late December was proceeded by a dominant win over Saint Mary’s on a neutral court.

Revenge becomes possible quickly for the Aztecs, as they travel to Provo to take on BYU in their second game of the season. They also welcome Arizona State a few days later, giving them a shot for another big win over the Pac-12. With a few other home dates sprinkled in there, they get their early-season tournament in Anaheim, facing Georgetown and either USC or Saint Joseph’s in the Wooden Legacy, a very winnable event.

The Aztecs return home and have a few intriguing home games before MWC play begins in January. They’ll welcome Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, and UC San Diego, but between those have some very interesting dates. On December 4th, they’ll travel to Michigan for their toughest test of the season. A few weeks later, they’ll head to Phoenix for another neutral-site date with Saint Mary’s.

MWC play opens January 1st at UNLV, leading to an 18-game schedule full of intrigue for the Aztecs. They get key road tests closer to the end of the year, with road games at Colorado State, Boise State, and Nevada in February and March. There’s a ton of winnable games along the way for the Aztecs, but it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against some of these better programs. Additionally, Senior Night would be March 1st against Colorado State in a game that could go a long way to deciding MWC superiority.
