Shooting Guard

Starter: KD Johnson

Similar to the point guard position previously, Auburn has multiple different players who could see time at the two throughout the 2021-22 campaign. Among that group, however, the starter is clear in Johnson, a talented guard who transferred to the Plains from Georgia in the offseason.

Despite not making his collegiate debut until SEC play on January 13, Johnson averaged an impressive 13.5 PPG as a freshman a year ago with the Bulldogs. Appearing in 16 games total, Johnson came off the bench in each but was able to take home SEC First-Team All-Freshman honors scoring in double-figures in 12 contests.

While not the biggest guard at 6’0, the sophomore is a talented scorer who shot 42.2% from the field a year ago, as well as an impressive 38.7% from three. Similar to Jasper previously, Johnson is also a strong defender as he averaged 1.9 SPG a year ago ranking second in the SEC and should be one of the most impactful players for the Tigers on both ends of the court.

Backup: Devan Cambridge

The primary backup to Johnson during the 2021-22 season will be Cambridge, who will likely serve as the Tigers starting small forward during non-conference play with the absence of Flanigan. When Flanigan returns, however, this is likely the role that Cambridge will feature the most.

A now junior, Cambridge is coming off a strong 2020-21 season a year ago in which he averaged 8.9 PPG and 3.6 RPG while shooting 37.6% from the field. One of the more versatile wings on the Auburn roster, Cambridge will play an important role for the Tigers in 2021-22, especially in the early part of the season.
